As an answer to Western Digital’s recent move to increase portable SSD capacities to 4TB across the board earlier this year, Micron today announced a significant upgrade of its own.
New Crucial X6: Faster speed, double the storage space
Indeed, the company unveiled a new version of the Crucial X6 that now has a top capacity doubled to 4TB. And there’s more. The new version has a significant boost in performance, too, now rated at 800MB/s of reading speeds, up from 540MB/s of existing capacities.
Other than the 4TB, Micron also releases a 500GB option to give consumers more choices. The chart below shows the complete lineup of the Crucial X6.

Pricing and availability
Micron says the new capacities (500GB and 4TB) are available immediately, which cost $69.96 and $489.95, respectively.
Other than the storage space (and the 4TB’s improved performance), the new drives are essentially the same as the 1TB and 2TB versions that I already reviewed.
Overall, the X6 is an excellent little portable device you can use for mobile storage, backup purposes, or as fast storage for game consoles. For more, check out the in-depth review below.
