Linksys’s Latest LAPAX3600C Wi-Fi 6 Cloud Managed Business Access Point Blends In Well

Linksys today announced the availability of its Cloud Managed AX3600 Wi-Fi 6 Indoor Wireless Access Point (AP), model LAPAX3600C.

And just like the new Hydra Pro 6 it unveiled yesterday, the new access point seems a bit mundane for the timing—it’s just another PoE indoor access point, with barely enough to rival the Netgear WAX620 or EnGenius ECW230 that came out some two years ago.

As a matter of fact, the LAPAX3600C blends right in since it comes in a very similar physical design.

As a Cloud Managed access point, the LAPAX3600C requires a login account with Linksys. In return, users can manage it remotely.

The AP offers many business features, including the support for a captive portal—that’s where you can configure advanced options for clients to get authorized, instead of the simple Wi-Fi password.

The captive portal also enables business users to attach logos and terms of use to meet professional needs. While that’s helpful, it’s not new and has been available in Wi-Fi 5 access points and older.

What’s most notable about the Linksys LAPAX3600C is that it comes with a 2.5Gbps PoE. This port itself is not new—you’ll find it in most other Wi-Fi 6 access points—but allows a strongly wired backhaul for the broadcaster to deliver its top Wi-Fi speeds.

The new AP features 4×4 Wi-Fi 6 specs but doesn’t support the 160MHz channel width. Hence, it has a top speed of 2400Mbps. But that is the case for most business broadcasters.

The new Linksys AP has a USB port, but it’s unclear what you can do with that port. As for the second LAN port, you can use it to host a wired device. This port is not working as a PoE sender, however, so you can use another PoE device with it.
