Synology recently released its 6-bay DS1618+ NAS server, capable of delivering a massive amount of storage space. Behold the server's design and some of its features in the photos below. For more, check out its full review.

The the back the DS1618+ has four network ports, two USB 3.1 ports and two eSATA ports. The eSATA ports can each be used to host a 5-bay DS517 extension units. In all the DS1618+ can house up to 16 internal drives.

The server's two fans are designed to deliver lots of air flow even at low speed to keep the server quiet, even during heavy operations.

The server has a PCIe slot to host a Synology add-on card.

The PCIe slot can host one of these two add-on cards:

  • Synology M2D17: A Dual M.2 SATA SSD adapter card that boosts the DS1618+'s performance with SSD cache. Or
  • Synology E10G17-F2 (the E10G17-F1 works too) 10GbE NIC: This is a next-gen network card that delivers up to 10,000Mbps throughput speed and enables the DS1618+'s network speed to over 1,550MB/s in reading and 580MB/s in writing in a RAID 5.

The Synology DS1618+'s system memory (RAM) bay is on its underside. There are two RAM slots one only one beign occupied with a 4GB stick. The server can have the max amount of up to 32GB.
