If you’re in the market for long-lasting microSD cards to put into those surveillance cameras or any always-on recording devices, Sandisk has something new to offer. The flash storage maker today announced its all-new SANDISK Guardian Series of high-endurance storage “designed specifically for security cameras, dash cams, and built-in monitoring systems.”

SANDISK Guardian Series: Two new high-endurance rugged microSD cards

The new series includes two microSD cards, the SANDISK Dash Cam Card and the SANDISK Security Cam Card.

According to Sandisk, both cards support recording up to 4K UHD and are available in capacities from 32GB to 512GB. Sandisk says they have ultra-high endurance. Based on Sandisk’s internal testing, they can handle the following amount of recording in full HD:

  • 40,000 hours for 512GB
  • 20,000 hours for 256GB
  • 10,000 hours for 128GB
  • 5,000 hours for 64GB
  • 2,500 hours for 32GB

It’s worth noting that the actual number of hours varies depending on the resolution and the recorder.

Other than that, as the name suggests, the two cards have some differences according to their intended use, specifically:

  • ANDISK Dash Cam Card: Engineered to work with a wide variety of dash cams, this drive is purpose-built for continuous, high-endurance recording in demanding driving conditions. It can withstand heat and humidity to handle even the longest drives with the camera being exposed to the environment.
  • SANDISK Security Cam Card: Built to work with a wide variety of security cameras, this drive is made to operate continuously alongside–or in lieu of–network storage to help keep your footage via Edge Recording even when the connection drops. It’s designed to be temperature-, water-, and dust-proof for 24/7 recording.

Of the two, the Security Cam card seems perfect for those that use microSD-based storage for their network video recorder, such as the UniFi Dream Router 7 or UniFi Cloud Gateway Industrial. In any case, the high endurance never hurts.
