If you’re interested in Ubiquiti’s latest 10Gbps Wi-Fi 7 PoE access points and struggling to decide which switch to power them, here’s some excellent news.
The networking vendor today announced four UniFi switches (USW) in its Pro XG PoE lineup with top-of-the-line port grades and high power budgets, available in models ranging from 8 ports to 48 ports.
They seem to be perfect high-speed companions for any of the company’s 10Gbps UniFi consoles, including the newly released UCG-Fiber.

Ubiquiti’s new UniFi Pro XG PoE switches: Fast port grades and top PoE power output
These new switches are all in the Pro XG family. They are high-performance switches with multiple Multi-Gig 10Gbps PoE ports, as suggested by the “XG” notion. They all have Etherlighting ports, each with a built-in programmable LED that works with a clear Etherlighting cable for easy port-based segmentation or identification.
In terms of PoE, one of them features the top PoE++ (802.3bt) standard, with the rest having “PoE+++”, which is how Ubiquiti refers to the Type 4 PoE standard. In any case, any of them has enough PoE output to power even the most demanding UniFi devices, such as the E7 access point.
So far, there are only UniFi devices that require PoE++ (60W) power input. The PoE+++ (90W) doesn’t hurt, but it’s generally overkill, though it can come in handy when you want to daisy-chain PoE devices, such as when powering the 8-port Flex 2.5G PoE without a power adapter.
The table below shows the specs of these four new switches.

As shown in the table above, of the four new switches, the Pro XG 8 PoE and Pro XG 10 PoE are excellent fits for home or SMB users, thanks to their affordable pricing and just-right capabilities. The other two are designed for big businesses or enterprise applications.

New category: UniFi WAN switches
In addition to the four traditional PoE switches above, Ubiquiti also introduced two new switches in an entirely new category called UniFi WAN switches: the WAN Switch RJ45 (USW-WAN-RJ45) and the WAN Switch (USW-WAN).
Both are rack-mount switches, and each comes with three 10Gbps ports and dual power supplies for redundancy. The only difference between them is that one has three 10GBASE-T (RJ45) ports, while the other has three SFP+ ports.
These switches are designed to support the high-availability feature of a UniFi system. As the name suggests, they can handle multiple wide-area network (WAN) connections. Consequently, when paired with UniFi’s enterprise-grade Shadow Mode and Multi-Chassis Link Aggregation (MCLAG), they can eliminate single points of failure, in regard to Internet connectivity, in a wired infrastructure.
Needless to say, these switches are for an advanced enterprise-grade environment with mission-critical applications.
Availability
The four new PoE switches are available now at prices ranging from $500 to $2,500 as mentioned above. The two USW WAN switches are also scheduled to arrive immediately or later this month, each costing $249.
Like all standard switches, the new UniFi PoE switches work with any existing network. However, if you use any of them with a UniFi Cloud Gateway, they will become part of the system, allowing you to manage the ports within the gateway’s interface. That’s also when you can really take advantage of some unique features, such as the Etherlighting ports.
I intend to take at least one of them, likely the consumer-grade Pro XG 8 PoE, out for a spin. Check back soon to see how it performs in hands-on, real-world testing.
I purchased QSW-M3216R-8S8T-US and couldnt be happier.
You could, V, if you have a UniFi router.
I ordered E7 with US-XG-6POE on April 11th…
I paid $599 for the switch.
The Pro XG 8 POE has more ports, more features for $499…
Well, I wouldn’t be able to wait until May.
I feel you, Seongjn, but you were also ahead in experience. Congrats!
